Is Salvia banned? It depends where you live.
Kansas and Oklahoma have recently introduced new laws that see Salvia banned in those states; they join around 9 other states which have introduced similar legislation. The legal landscape does not look good for the little herb.
Users tell us that smoking or chewing Salvia leaves induces hallucinations that are often the same potency of those experienced by users of LSD. In fact Salvia is the most potent naturally occurring hallucinogen.
And yet US federal law makers do not feel the need to introduce laws that see Salvia banned. What does this say about the situation? Salvia is still very much legal in those states that have not yet passed the offending laws. Salvia is legal in almost all countries across the world, and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of that changing at all.
The people that want Salvia banned may be influenced by the tragic death of a Delaware teen who, his parents say, was a heavy user of Salvia. They blame the hallucinogen on is death. There have been no reported deaths directly stemming from the use of Salvia, although scientists and doctors know very little indeed about the long- and short-term effects of drug.
